Free West Papua Campaign, Papua New Guinea.
Long live Free Melanesia!
An update for friends on the 3 Free West Papua activists arrested on Dec 1st in
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
We were released on bail from the Boroko cell this afternoon Tuesday, December
3 at 3.30 pm. From the initial K10,000 each for bail that was laid for our
release by the Police at Boroko Police Station, the magistrate at the Waigani
Committal Court reduced it significantly to K250 each. We bear no grudges
against anyone for the uncertainties we faced. We will await court appearance
in 3 months time (March 4th, 2013). The onus is on the State to build the case
against us; that is, prove that we are guilty of any charges they bring against
us (to date no formal charges have been laid on us).
On behalf of myself, and my two colleagues, Fred and Tony we would like to
express our heartfelt gratitude to the many people, both in PNG and overseas
who prayed for us, prepared meals for us and personally delivered foodstuff for
us, dropped off betelnuts and cigarettes, sent phone credits for our
communication with family and friends, and provided encouragement for us during
our jail experience at the Boroko cells. For those members of our network of
friends (some known to us, some unknown to us) from the social media
fraternity, who contributed to the bail money appeal and the organizers of that
appeal, our very sincere appreciation for all the kindness of your heart. The
generosity, support and encouragement were overwhelming we are indebted to so
many kind people. We also thank the administrators and members of the various
Facebook discussion groups who took time to personally communicate or visit us.
Overseas, colleagues kept abreast with the happenings after the December 1
arrests and were very supportive. Some colleagues in Hawai'i even offered to
generate financial contributions to cover the cost of the bail fee (originally
put at K10, 000 but there is no need for that now since the K250 bail fee has
already been paid). What transpired during and after the December 1 Morning
Star raising ceremony at City Hall is now the subject of court proceedings. We
will not comment of that.
In all of this we are all celebrating and commemorating the resilience,
survival and personal sacrifices of Melanesians in the colonized territory of
West Papua. West Papuans are the true heroes and champions we all look up to,
NOT the three so-called "West Papuan activists/organizers". The West
Papuan people have struggled for the last 50 years to create for themselves and
their children a sovereign state of their own and to determine their own
destiny. Just ask ourselves: Which peoples in our neighborhood have
continuously in the last 50 years resisted foreign occupation? Which peoples
have lost close to a million lives in the process of the struggle for the
preservation of their uniquely Melanesian identity? West Papuans deserve the
unconditional support of all Papua New Guineans and other fellow Melanesians.
Finally, we are very mindful that there are real and imagined threats that lurk
within this nation. People who are benefiting directly or indirectly from the
continued exploitation and subjugation of West Papuan land and people are eager
to “silence” through any means those who speak about the rights to West Papuan
self-determination. Such is the sensitivity of this issue we commit the
struggle to the spiritual protection of the Almighty. The Almighty Jehovah
himself will protect us and rest assured, all evil will be banished in the good
name of the Almighty.
God Bless West Papua and its brave sons and daughters. And God Bless
Melanesians, a people created in the image and likeness of HIM alone and no
other. And God Bless Global Citizens and Friends who have the same heart desire
for a Free West Papua.
